Today I would like to recognize the RINI district teacher of the year.  This well-deserved recognition is evidence of this teacher's hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence in education and in our community.  This year, we opened up the nominations to the community and many outstanding candidates were submitted.  We also expanded the DTOY committee to include all past recipients.  There was excellent conversation that took place because we are fortunate to have so many worthy educators.  But ultimately, we can only have one winner to represent our school.

This teacher has a passion for their content and it has been a pleasure to watch their growth and development over the past few years.  This teacher often flies under the radar due to the quiet demeanor in which she carries herself.  But behind that quiet personality is an exceptional educator.  She has been consistently involved in the development of our curriculum and the work on improving our state assessment scores.

This educator has strong data that demonstrates that her instructional strategies are supporting significant student growth.  She has been the primary leader of the URI writing initiative at RINI and continues to work to bring more course opportunities to our students.

Outside of the classroom, she regularly presents at national conferences to her colleagues and she has been acknowledged as editing college level textbooks….one of which we use here at RINI.  She has published poetry and continues to advance her professional skills.

In addition to all of this, she took on a few more responsibilities this academic year.  First she stepped up to leadership by taking on the role of department chair.  She is also the primary author and coordinator of the biweekly, bilingual newsletter that we send home to our families.  It seems like she has her hands in a little bit of everything…and she continues to be a wonderful asset to our community.
